James Hennessy and Co
Irishman Richard Hennessy first established a trading company in the town of Cognac in 1765. His son James expanded the firm and gave it the name it still bears today, exporting Cognac to Britain, Ireland, Australia and the newly emergant USA. James’ descendant’s maintained his international outlook, and in the 19th Century Hennessy pioneered the drive to establish lucrative new markets in the Far East and South America. Today Hennessy is an instantly recognisable luxury brand around the world.
