Domaine Armand Rousseau

Run by the friendly Charles Rousseau, since the death of his father in 1959, and his daughter Corinne, Domaine Arnaud Rousseau is a 14 hectare operation with its feet securely in the traditional methods camp.

Whilst others use all the modern techniques with abandon, Charles using them sparing. The wines are moved by gravity and are never pumped. The very idea of forcing wine through pumps simply can not be understood by Charles and Corinne. “Some of the Grand Crus [Chambertin] are matched, if not surpassed, by the best of the Premier Cru vineyards, especially those with an ideal exposition such as Les Cazetiers and Clos St Jacques. Indeed Domaine Arnaud Rousseau, the famous name of Gevrey, thanks to the eponymous Armand’s pioneering domaine bottling in the 1930s, charges significantly more for Clos St Jacques than for several Grand Crus in an impressive range of wines” Jancis Robinson “The Oxford Companion to Wine”.
