Italy
|
Italy provides the wine world with a beguiling array of flavours and
aromas as distinctive and unique as the country itself. Many
winemakers choose to bypass what they see as restrictive wine laws
and produce exquisitely made international varietal wines, with that
tell tale Italian twist. However, there are others who favour the traditional route, using the 2000 plus indigenous grape varieties available to them. A new generation of young, internationally trained winemakers are ready to embrace modern techniques and technology, and have shown Italian wine the way forward. Barolo, Manfredi Manfredi's wine estate was founded in Farigliano in the second post-war period, when Giuseppe "Pin" Manfredi began to produce the wine Dolcetto. The wines are still family made. Barolo Manfredi is made from the Nebbiolo grape aged for long periods in large oak barrels for a minimum of two years, plus a further year in bottle. The wines have a great concentration of fruit and intensity of flavours, with high levels of tannins which aid long term preservation and development. | ![]() |
