White Burgundy

Burgundy is possibly the most confusing of any wine area as a result of the fragmented ownership of the vineyard land. At best, the wines, both red and white, have great finesse and elegance. In all areas of wine production the most important piece of information on the label is the name of the producer, as both good and bad wines come out of every area, every year.

Balls Brothers White Burgundy
Caves des Vignerons de Buxy, who are responsible for blending our very own Balls Brothers White Burgundy, also produce the fantastic Montagny Les Loges 1er Cru. Made exclusively from the fruit of old vines (minimum age of 25 years), production is rigorously controlled to ensure that yields are limited.

White - 2004 Vintage

Generally very good. There is a fine balance with lively acidity and freshness. Selection was important as some variation in ripening meant that not all grapes were harvested in perfect condition. We have chosen our own wines very carefully.

    Price
2004 Montagny 1er Cru Les Loges, Caves de Buxy   £11.40
Oak fermented to impart rich flavours. Regular "battonage" (stirring) during production gives this wine delicious bready aromas.   Qty

2004 Rully Blanc 1er Cru, Marissou   £12.80
A mouth-filling wine with a very distinctive nose and palate. It is earthy and creamy in style, showing very little of the expected melon overtones of Chardonnay. Big and round in body, it will benefit from being matched with food. For those who prefer a heavier style of white Burgundy.   Qty

2004 Meursault Clos St Felix, Michelot   £23.50
Rich, nutty and buttery, overlaid with scents of honey, cinnamon and vanilla.   Qty

2004 Puligny-Montrachet, Jean-Marc Boillot   £35.20
Classic, pure Puligny from a domaine that seems to be getting better with each vintage. Superb wine made by a perfectionist.   Qty

2004 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Claviollon', Leflaive   £46.90
Buttery yellow gold colour. Lovely nose of almost roasted, florid mineral fruit. The palate is very rich, sumptuous even, with lush full alcoholic flavours, powerful and long, lifted delicately by a light acidity.   Qty
